After recieving feedback from Tom Bower I went out to record some dirtier engines. This included a bike meet of Harley Davidsons. Mad Max sounds a lot better now!
Feedback from Simon Hill
Many of the points Simon made are similar to Tom Bowers.
- There are a few lip syncing issues, use the half speed playback to better sync the audio
- Along as the start and end points are perfect, you can mostly get away with other dialogue that might be slightly out of sync
- Some of the car sounds aren't quite right
- The ambience seems too static in each clip
- There is a part where Max starts speaking but no audio plays until half way through.
- This is due to the redub of the original film. I will have to try figure out something to fill in the gap
- Try adding some SFX to the flying characters in DBZ, they have the power of the gods, give that to them through sound!
Feedback from Tom Bowers
I had been given feedback on my projects so far.
For Mad Max:
- Needs ambience
- The ADR at the beginning needs more reverb to emulate a cave
- Think about the change of scene from the cave to the cars, the cars coming in sooner can narrate a change in scene
- As the characters come closer to the camera, their dialogue needs to be louder.
- The car sounds used aren't that good. I should go to some car meet ups and dealerships to try record dirtier engines.
- Don't let the drums fade when they go off screen, it seems unnatrual
- Exaggerate everything, these clips are all over the top
- Some cars need more characterization.
- Remove any weak car sounds and replace them with better sounds.
- The explosions sound the same, change this if you have time
- Try to add more foley
For Dragonball:
- There is too much low end in the character voices, drop below 70dB to make this better
- The foot steps at the beginning are too sharp, consider changing them to someone who sounds like they are injured.
- There is a lot of singular sounds in the ambience. I should layer more things together for a more effective ambient noise.
- There is no car engine even though the camera sits in front of the car.
- Try change the line where Whis is eating, to sound like he's eating.
- Add some flying sounds for the characters, just to indicated that they are moving.
Mixing
Now that most of the sounds are in, it's probably a good idea to mix. Making sure I bring out the most important points in each scene. From attending the lecture with Simon from Halo studios, I understand that there is no requirement for the loudness of films! Away I go!
Car Sound Recording
Did some sound recording for Mad Max. I recorded some of the biggest engines this store had! Hopefully these recordings will intensify the monster car sounds and bring the clip to life through Hyper-Realism

Voice Acting for Beerus
This was definitely one of the harder characters to find the right voice for. The mix of a British accent with American dialect is a hard one to re-create.
